So I opened my razor to strop it and as was opening it up it just pulled apart, I didnt use excessive force or anything, it didnt even make a snapping sound :( anyway Im pretty bummed out! I havent even done my third shave yet!
Has anyone else had this problem with the dovo 6/8 half hollow best quality? It almost looks like the pin was put in to tightly or something along those lines.
So this was brand new? Sounds like you need to check your warranty with whoever you bought it from. This shouldn't happen with normal use.
I know it is a bummer. All you can do is email the vendor. I think they will replace it for you.
Not to mine, and it's three years old. The scales are downright beefy so I'm actually surprised to see that.
The scales were either deficient somehow, the pin was too tight or both. Unfortunately if the razor came honed by the vendor the mfg's warranty is void. Your best bet, as has been mentioned, would be to contact the vendor and try to work something out. Sorry man, that sucks.
Yep bran new, opened it out of the package on tuesday afternoon. The seal was broke, since it was honed by lynn but it was still nicely wrapped in the paper and coated in oil.
Ya I emailed straight razor designs and sent them the pictures. Im sure they will have a solution.
My scales look pretty beefy as well, it was very surprizing to me when they just pulled apart.
sorry to hear that friend. I own 2 of these razors scales are solid. I would contact the vendor and see if they can do something for you. or else you might want to put new scales on them.
I have no doubt SRD will take care of you. The price of repairing your razor is nothing compared to the cost of bad PR. Word of mouth, especially on this site would be far more costly to them than doing right by you. Be patient but be persistant and I would bet that you will be satisfied in the end.
BTW, I own the exact same razor and have not any issues with it whatsoever. Sorry to see your had to be that one in a thousand SNAFUs.
Am certain SRD will take care of the issue,no worrys,But was there not a similar issue with that same razor about a month ago on this site??????????

I heard that if you just send it back, they will replace the scales for you.

I was really glad to see this particular post come up. For several reasons actually. While I had looked at the “Best Quality” as one of the two possible new razors, I’m afraid that seeing this has really made my mind up. I had always been going to get the “Bismark”, but I think that I’m going to look at something else as a second. It’s also comforting to see Lynn’s reaction since that was where I was planning to get everything.

It broke in the middle of a shave when I moved the blade to switch grips.
Looks like Dovo need to sort out their QC standards. Or find another supplier of scale material.

I bought 3 of the exact same razor and they have all been wonderful with no problems whatsoever. I'm surprised because Dovo's are actually quite good razors in spite of the bad press that they get. SRD will make you 100%.
Dovo must've had a bad batch of the black Best Quality scales. It seems that the black are the only ones breaking.
Just adding my .02 worth to this conversation; I own 2 Dovo "Best Quality" razors, a 5/8" and a 6/8". I have been using them for more than 7 months now, rotating with another Dovo. I haven't had the least bit of trouble from any of these razors.
I agree with the other men who feel it is simply a bad batch of scales which made their way to Dovo from the vendor. It is sad that QC/QA at 2 companies failed to catch the problem!
I'm sure we all here at SRP are not so arrogant as to believe that every wet shaver on the planet is member of our unique group. We would only be guessing at how big the problem truly is, unless of course one of our members is involved with Dovo at the factory level.
I hope for Dovo's sake that they get the issue resolved quickly. Things like this have a tendancy to hurt reputations in a hurry. Or does this all fall under the heading of "You get what you pay for?":thinking:
Are these scales injection molded? Injection molders will sometime throw material no longer needed into black batches. The extra stuff may not have the same properties as the spec'd product.Quote:
